Summer 2003 we made a road trip to San Francisco
and had a ton of fun with my city cousin Zoe.
My first trip to the big city.

It was record temps in the Bay Area and we headed out to the beach to
beat the heat, and hang ten with the rest of the pack.

We also did a few day trips..one of the best ones out to Babyfoot Lake
on a hot summer day with Dave and BuBu. BuBu likes to put his head out the window
and let his lab ears flap in the wind while he tweets like a bird. We drove and drove
and drove and then hiked through the remains of the Biscuit Fire.
A totally surreal landscape that eventually opened onto an emerald green jewel of a lake
where we hung out on a log like a couple of lizards.
What a day, what a life.

January 2004

A day not unlike many others here in paradise.
A great drive along the river on the way to the dump
where the nice man at the entrance pulled a cookie out
of his pocket for me right off the bat.

Grants Pass is the ultimate dogtown, theres cookies
to be scored at every gas station, drive through bank,
with every UPS delivery, and in the box waiting with the evening paper.

Our paper guy, Joe, has about 30 dogs on his newspaper route.
We all wait for him in our driveways up and down the Loop.
Every day theres usually a few cookies strapped under the rubber band.
Make my day JOE!!!

February 2004
Not much on the boob tube these days -
just a bunch of election news.

Breaking News!

Vandals hit the loop, and our smashed mailbox
made the front page on Valentines Day.

One of our neighbors came by with the pieces of Mr Mailbox the morning after,
and put up our original box.
In fact he was going up and down the road fixing
and replacing everybodies' busted boxes.
Random acts of kindness go a long way under these sorts of circumstances.
Later, Dave came by with the new KebMo' CD and he left with the pieces,
returning in a few days with it back together looking good as new.

The local paper sent their crime reporter out to
follow up, and he took my picture...with the rebuilt mailbox.
Dave had crafted a little sign for it that says,
"Please don't smash break or mutilate"

The paperguy took a lot of pictures of that little sign.

Mom told him if he was impressed with the mailbox rebuild,
he should take a look at the rebuild Daves' done on the barn,
and she gave him the tour.
